As dusk drew near families from everywhere came loaded with picnic baskets and chairs and the atmosphere was set for an evening filled with the laughter of children, the iconic voice of Lieze Stassen, a larger-than-life Christmas tree and a fireworks display that eventually took everybody's breath away!
The winners of the quarter, half and whole lamb donated by Van Rensburg Foods were announced by Headmaster Karools Hauptfleisch and Milissa Els from the Hyatt Regency Oubaai handed over the funds raised during the recent Celebrate Life event.
When Lieze Stassen sat down behind the piano and the words of My Hart is Jou Gebed filled the evening air, a tangible, sacred silence came over the audience.
With one touching rendition after the other Lieze gripped the hearts of each audience member. When dusk fell candles were lit and suddenly everybody was sitting at the foot of an enormous Christmas tree singing Christmas carols. In years to come the lyrics of Oh Holy Night will transport everybody who sang this with Lieze back to the evening.
With all the lights switched off and the candles snuffed the audience were astounded by a fireworks display never seen in George before! The heavens above George were transformed into an incredible display of wonderment, adults and children cheering with each flare-up of sparkling glitter!
Headmaster Karools Hauptfleisch was adamant that he wanted to give back to the George community after all the support shown to Carpe Diem School in recent years.
