So said the outgoing manager of the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre, Beatrice Esterhuysen, at the farewell party held on Friday night in her honour at the theatre. In wishing her all the best George Society of Arts committee member John Rapley said Beatrice was the first full-time theatre manager employed by the society.
She had done a remarkable job for the past six years and has put the theatre on the map. She is leaving the old theatre building in an excellent state following the revamp.
"We are saying a fond farewell. We know that your heart lies elsewhere in that you want to pursue your career as a singer."
Beatrice took part in many of the society's local productions, as well as the musicals that Edwina Rapley produced, and did so with her customary passion and multi-tasking verve.
The woman who spent many long hours at the 'old lady', keeping the wheels well oiled, was touched by the photo album given as a farewell present. The glossy photos - of her in costume - are highlights of her six year career with the theatre.
