The gala was a great success with about 80 competitors taking part. The swimmers took part in 119 events in the various age groups ranging from 10 years and under, to 17 years and older.
Swimming in the Southern Cape has grown from strength to strength and this is shown by the performances of swimmers in this gala.
Medals and awards were sponsored by Martin Holtzhausen Properties and Financial Services.
Victor and victrix ludorum winners were based on top performance in various events. Four trophies were awarded in the various categories. The winners were: junior girls - Ianthe van der Westhuizen; junior boys - Nick Coertze; senior girls - Jamie Nortjé; senior boys - Bradley Shultz.
This ends a highly successful short course season.
The long course (50m pool) swimming season kicks off on 9 October in Oudtshoorn. The long course gala attracts more swimmers due to the warmer conditions.
Seven long course galas will be held in Oudtshoorn and George ending with the long course championships on 10 and 11 December at the Conville pool in George.
In the meantime a team of 28 swimmers from SWD will be heading off to Port Elizabeth for the Aqua Bear Inter Club Gala from 24 to 26 September. This is a large gala and approximately 500 swimmers from across the country are expected to participate.
