GEORGE NEWS - George Mayor Melvin Naik hosted Progress Rugby Club at a congratulatory event after their SWD Premier League Cup win.
Naik congratulated the team on a well-deserved win and said their task of representing the whole of George and SWD is a big responsibility. He asked the team and management to stay focused on their next big goal, the national Gold Cup, and wished them well in the upcoming competition.
Having enjoyed the excellent performance of singer/songwriter Faith Ndukwana at an earlier George municipal event, he arranged for her to entertain the players. The mayor and Cllr Peter Louw, councillor for Ward 5 (the home of the club) presented the club with a cheque.
Club president Randal Geduld promised that they would do their utmost in the coming competition. Vincent Moos, head coach, said they started the season full of bravado and then lost their first match against Pacaltsdorp. "We prayed and realised we will not be able to make it alone. We put God first and use sport as a tool to expand the Kingdom of God."
