SPORT NEWS - York High School delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Belgotex Easter Hockey Tournament, with both the first team boys and girls securing podium finishes against some of the top school sides in the country.
Competing in a tournament featuring 128 teams - 64 boys’ and 64 girls’ teams - York’s boys fought their way to the final, ultimately claiming silver after a hard-fought contest.
The girls’ side also impressed, finishing third overall to secure bronze following a demanding series of matches.
In the boys’ section, Fairmont High School took top honours, with York finishing second and Paul Roos Gymnasium placing third.
In the girls’ competition, Fairmont once again claimed gold, followed by Stellenberg High School in second, while York rounded off the podium in third place.
Coach Jason Slater praised the teams’ efforts and conduct throughout the tournament.
“We are extremely proud of our first boys’ and girls’ hockey teams that delivered outstanding results at the 2026 Belgotex Hockey Tournament."

"With 64 girls’ and 64 boys’ teams participating, walking away with silver and bronze medals in the Cup section was fantastic for our hockey department and school,” said Slater.

Slater specially mentioned the teams’ sportsmanship and the broader impact of their performance.
Teams were praised for their “never-say-die” attitude and the exemplary manner in which they represented the school.
“We are really proud of the way our teams conducted themselves on and off the field. This once again showcased the hockey talent we have in the Garden Route,” he said, thanking supporters, parents and their sponsor, Stiles.
