GEORGE NEWS - Mountain biking enthusiasts may look forward to an action-packed day when the Witfontein Enduro takes place this Sunday, 15 March.
The event forms part of the SA Enduro Series and will see riders tackle some of the Garden Route’s most challenging and scenic trails.
The race village will be based at the Garden Route Botanical Garden, with access through the Aloe entrance. The riders will start in hourly batches between 06:00 and 09:00. The first group will compete in the full enduro, followed by the e-bike category and then the lite enduro.
Participants are required to arrive at least an hour before their batch departs to load their bikes onto the trailers, while rider briefings will take place 15 minutes before each start.
Six stages
Competitors in the full enduro will face a demanding course of six stages covering 29km with 1 300m of climbing.
The lite enduro features three stages over 21km with 850m of climbing, while e-bike riders will complete the relevant stages as well as a special power stage.
Race registration and collection of race boards and timing chips will take place the evening before the event, from 18:00 to 20:00 on Saturday 14 March.
Come and watch
Spectators are welcome to attend and watch the action from designated viewpoints along the route. Entry to the venue is R30 for non-riders, R15 for learners aged six to 17, and free for children under six.
Medical services will be provided by Frontier Medix, with two response vehicles, medics on duty, and a medical post in the race village.
The race has a cut-off time of 15:30, and the prize-giving is planned for 16:00 once all riders have finished.
