GEORGE NEWS - The 58th annual Vic Bay Quad in memory of the late John Pfaff takes place this weekend from Friday 3 May with the finals on Sunday 5 May.
The quad is a popular Surfing South Africa inter-district event between Eden, Nelson Mandela Bay, Cape Town and Buffalo City Surf Riders.
Since 2011, the competition has grown into one of the largest annual amateur surf contests in South Africa, with over 100 surfers travelling to George to compete.
In preparation for a major contest like this, each district must select its best surfers in certain age categories. They do this by running trials in the months leading up to the event.
The top surfers from each age group are selected to represent their district in the following categories: Over 60, Over 50, Over 45, Over 40, Over 30, Open Women and Open Men.
This ensures the cream of the surfing talent is represented at the event.
Through the years, Vic Bay has become a popular contest venue for surfers in South Africa and abroad and world-class surfing is definitely on the cards.
The Vic Bay Quad is held every year in honour of the late Pfaff, and his son David not only competes each year, but plays a major role in supporting the event.
