WATER POLO NEWS - This past weekend, 6 to 9 February, was a historical weekend for Glenwood House water polo when, for the first time, the girls u.16 water polo team won a tournament.
At the prestigious three-day Rhenish u.16 Water Polo Tournament in Stellenbosch, they outplayed elite competitors from the Western and Eastern Cape to take home the trophy.
They were privileged enough to be the opening game of the tournament, playing against Herschel u.16B and winning 10-1.
This was only the beginning of their winning streak. They went on to beat Rustenburg 13-0, Rhenish u.16A 9-1, Springfield 6-0, and Reddam Invitational 10-4.
In the final, they went up against the renowned DSG from Grahamstown and defeated them 6-1. In addition, Mia Gibson also won the award for top goal scorer at the tournament.
To top it all off, five members of the Glenwood team were selected from the 16 participating teams to play in the Greece International Tournament later this year. They are Mia Gibson, Méla Loubser, Jessica Whitehead, Tatum Dace and Rosslyn Squair.
Coach James Dodington cannot be prouder of their hard work and accomplishment.
