BOXING NEWS - Thembalethu's rising boxing star, Imange Thethani (17), has won gold at the Sanabo South Africa Youth and Elite National Championships in Cape Town, once again making George proud.

She was also recognised as South Africa's best female youth boxer. 

These achievements have earned her a selection to represent South Africa at the African Boxing Championships in Maputo, Mozambique, later this year.

This Sobhuza Boxing Club boxer produced another dominant display to become the first female boxer from Thembalethu to qualify for an African championship, marking a significant milestone for local boxing.

Coach Amahle Malobola and team manager Nkosikho Makalima praised Imange's dedication and determination throughout the tournament. 

Makalima also thanked the Eden Boxing Federation for its support in getting the team to the championships and the South African National Boxing Organisation for hosting what he described as an outstanding national event.

Imange told George Herald said she is delighted with her progress and ready for the challenge of competing on the African stage. 

This Grade 11 learner of Thembalethu High continues to build an impressive reputation in the ring. "I've worked hard for this opportunity, and it feels good to see my hard work paying off," she said.

"I'm proud to represent George, Thembalethu and South Africa, and I hope to inspire more young girls to take up boxing."

With a national title, a best boxer award and South African colours now to her name, Imange has her sights firmly set on an even bigger goal - representing South Africa at the Olympic Games.
