GEORGE NEWS - Trail runners from across the country are invited to take part in George's first summit to summit trail run.
The 25km Fearless Summit Trail Run takes place on Saturday 28 September. It starts in the Garden Route Botanical Garden and will take runners on magnificent routes to George and Cradock peaks.
According to organiser Roché Schoeman, this event is not only a first for George, but will also be completely plastic free.
"It will comprise of three different trail runs and is open for the public and all professional trail runners. Our initiative and passion for promoting plastic free events will be a challenge; the trail will be even more so," he says.
According to Schoeman, the original George Peak route was opened by the 2018 fires and enabled them to host this event.
"The Fearless Summit will reach George Peak at 1 328m and Cradock Peak at 1 572m with technical vertical climbs, magnificent views, freshwater streams and beautiful new growth. We would like to thank CapeNature, Expedition North, Gone Outdoor, Patagonia and Garden Route Botanical Garden for assisting us in making this possible," says Schoeman.
There will also be a adventure family run of 5km and a 10km mini summit.
Registration will take place on Friday 27 September from 17:00 to 20:00.
On registration night, a professional ultra trail running athlete will address the athletes, an environmental Patagonia short film will be screened and all the best and latest mountain and trail gear will be on display.
"This event will change trail running forever. We are hoping to show people that it is possible to run sport events plastic free. By making small fundamental changes to our everyday life regarding plastic, we can keep millions of tons of plastic out of our ocean where most of it ends up," says Schoeman.
