SCHOOL SPORT - School sport took centre stage on Saturday 5 September when the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) hosted a vibrant schools sports festival at the Imizamo Yethu Secondary School.

The event featured netball, soccer and basketball, while indigenous games such as Kgati and Kho-kho were also introduced.

Four primary schools - Thembalethu, Tabatha, MM Mateza and Tyholora - competed in the U14 division, while Thembalethu High, Jonga High, Imizamo Yethu Secondary and Heatherlands High contested the U17 section.

In the U17 soccer, Imizamo Yethu played goalless draws against both Jonga High and Thembalethu High, after which Thembalethu High defeated Jonga High 1-0 and Heatherlands High 2-0. Imizamo Yethu recorded a 1-0 win over Heatherlands.

In the U17 netball, Imizamo Yethu defeated Jonga High 10-3.

Basketball produced an exciting split, with Imizamo Yethu winning 69-65 before Heatherlands High bounced back to win the second match 36-34.
