SWIMMING NEWS - A total of 42 clubs from across South Africa participated in this year's Freda Barnard Gala, held at the 50m outdoor Conville Pool in George over the past weekend.
A total of 48 swimmers from Royal Swimming Academy took part and with 204 personal best times and an overall team result of 2 674 points, Royal Swimming Academy placed second overall - an impressive result for this local club under the management of founder and head coach Mimette Salter.
Now in its ninth swimming season, the Royal Swimming Academy is the fastest-growing swim school in the Southern Cape - with nine Swimming South Africa-accredited coaches and five swim schools, the club offers professional swimming tuition from learn-to-swim through to Masters.
The Royals' team spirit could be felt around the Conville pool, with swimmers dressing up in "Royals blue" and simply having fun!
The event culminated in Royals swimmer Kyle Hahn, who achieved 10 gold, one silver and one bronze medal, and a whopping 233 points, being awarded the junior victor ludorum trophy - a proud moment for all.
A special mention also goes to swimmer AJ Fernold who finished one point behind Kyle with 10 gold and one silver.
