GEORGE NEWS - The George Bowling Club's prestigious President's Day tournament once again delivered a couple of memorable and competitive days of lawn bowls last weekend, with 36 teams from across the region gathering on the club's immaculate greens.
The event was officially opened by George Municipality's Cllr Erica Brown, who welcomed the bowlers, especially the visiting teams, and emphasised George's growing reputation as a premier sporting destination.
Following the formalities, the action got under way with a pre-drawn first round, followed by two highly competitive strength-versus-strength rounds.
Emerging as the overall winners were the talented Nel family from Mossel Bay, Bertu, Ilze and Marco, who showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the day.
Hot on their heels as runners-up were the seasoned Knysna trio of John Rimbault, Trix van Niekerk and Andy Proctor.
The club extended its sincere gratitude to George Municipality, George Tourism and the Personal Trust for their valued sponsorship and support, which continues to enhance the event's profile and attract high-calibre participants from far and wide.
Visitors were also treated to a visual celebration of the region, with 'George Naturally' flags and gazebos on display and tourism brochures highlighting George as a vibrant, adventure-rich destination in the heart of the Garden Route.
