GEORGE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp is boasting a newly formed table tennis club that was started to accommodate children in Pacaltsdorp who play the sport, but are not able to travel to Rosemoor where practice sessions are held.
"These children are a bunch of talented kids who already qualified and participated in two South African National Championship events. They have qualified again to participate in the 2024 SA Champs in Johannesburg in the September school holidays," says chairman André Mouton.
The club held its very first tournament on the weekend of 25 May to check and test players' readiness for such an event and to highlight their capabilities and shortcomings. Children from Riversdal, George and Knysna took part.
"The club welcomes everyone who is interested in playing this wonderful game. It is a fast sport and enhances concentration and focus. This can help improve children's concentration and focus in their studies.
"We also aim to improve their self-confidence and etiquette and encourage them to take ownership of their surroundings and being proud ambassadors for their community. It is an edifying way of keeping them busy and away from undesirable situations," says Mouton.
"The club calls on businesses and individuals for all possible assistance in the form of sponsorships to help the club grow the sport in Pacaltsdorp and in the greater George. In return marketing rights can be discussed."
The sport can be played by all ages from a very young age up to senior level of almost any age.
