GEORGE NEWS - The newly established Outeniqua Rhythmic Gymnastics Club made an impressive debut at the Eden Rhythmic Gymnastics Trials on Saturday 18 July, with all three of its gymnasts finishing on the overall podium in their respective age groups.
Representing George South Primary School, Mieke de Beer dominated the level 1 U9 category. She won gold medals for both her free dance and ball routines and was crowned the overall champion in her division.
Fellow George South Primary learner Olivia Grobler competed in the level 4 U9 category, in which she earned gold for her free dance routine and bronze medals for both her ball and rope routines. Her consistent performances secured her the overall silver medal.
Blanco Primary learner Mieke Meyer competed in the level 6 U12 division. She claimed silver medals in her free dance, rope and ribbon routines to finish second overall in her category.
The results mark a promising start for the new club, as every gymnast achieved an overall podium finish at its first Eden trials. The three athletes have been selected as part of the Eden District team and will now prepare for the Western Cape Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships next month, when they will aim to build on their strong performances.
