GEORGE NEWS - The Thembalethu-based netball club, George Thunderstorm, achieved second place in the Woza Woza Tournament, going down 23-19 against Braves Netball Club (Cape Town) in the final on Sunday 1 September at the Kwanokuthula Stadium in Plettenberg Bay.
They did however, make some thunder with two players named the best of the tournament: Sammuelinah Ndizana (best shooter) and Asanda Ngcwangu (best defender).
Nineteen netball teams participated in this year's Woza Woza netball festival.
George Thunderstorm coach Mandisa Mbathane was very proud of her team and thanked them for their hard work. She said they were put together from various clubs in Thembalethu only a few weeks before the start of the tournament. They faced the best team from Cape Town, who were recently crowned as the 2024 Twizza netball champions, and proved everybody wrong during the tournament. Mbathane also expressed thanks to the sponsors of the Woza Woza tournament.
