GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Eden Modern Pentathlon Association (Eden MPA) athletes held the South African flag high in the 2024 UIPM Biathle and Triathle World Championships held in Port Said, Egypt from 10 to 13 October with 600 athletes representing 28 countries.
Biathle is a continuous 'run-swim-run' event with no breaks in between, while triathle involves a 'shoot-swim-run' sequence with multiple laps.
Both events vary in distance, based on the participant's age group.
"Bringing home multiple world medals, Eden MPA's athletes didn't hold back and showed their stuff in scorching conditions while running on the sand and swimming in the sea," said Mariska Haasbroek of Eden MPA.
"Athletes who competed in both biathle and triathle, being two different sport disciplines, who powered through the semi-finals and mixed relays during the first two days and ended with strenuous efforts in the finals the last two days of the competition, are truly commendable," said Haasbroek.
