GEORGE NEWS - Riders from across the province attended the Western Cape Pony and Junior Rider Show Jumping Championship hosted by the George Riding Club over the long weekend.
Show secretary Paula Bronkhorst said the riding club's lush green facilities and top-quality arenas make it the only Garden Route showground between Gqeberha (PE) and Cape Town that offers equestrians the opportunity to compete.
"The Western Cape Pony and Junior Rider Champs is a significant show to all our equestrian youth. It is such an honour to host this event," she said.
The show offered a series of different recreational as well as graded show-jumping classes, ranging from 40cm to 130cm in height. About 300 entries were received, with roughly 100 competitors ranging from five to 20 years old, competing in three items each. Accompanied by friends, family and instructors, over 1 000 people descended on George for the championships.

"George Riding Club is grateful to Equestrian Affair, our main title sponsor, and to all other sponsors for being generous and contributing greatly to making this event a huge success," said Bronkhorst.
