"Well, if they think I can do it, I am jolly well going to do it!" was the thought that went through Daphne’s mind when she was presented with this unusual gift.
Daphne’s youngest son wanted to join her, so she waited until he arrived from London at the beginning of January.
Together they went up to 10 000 feet before jumping in tandem, each with their own instructor, and falling at a speed of 240 km per hour.
"There is no time to think before you jump," says Daphne, who will never forget this experience.
A friend had advised her to remove her false teeth before taking the plunge, but she is forever grateful that she did not, because the whole experience was videotaped.
"Free-falling through the air, I started thinking of how I would one day descend to Heaven when God comes to fetch me, instead of being fully aware that I was falling down to earth with another person."
More than anything else Daphne recalls the quietness, the absolute peacefulness.
"I will do it again, should someone sponsor me," says the brave octogenarian.
