GEORGE NEWS - The George Hustlers Basketball Club were recently crowned the Eden District basketball champions at the Mossel Bay Sports Complex in KwaNonqaba, after an unbeaten run.
The tournament brought together leading basketball teams from across the Garden Route, and the George side emerged as the standout performers of the competition.
The Hustlers had secured victories over the Mossel Bay Marlins, Knysna Rim Dreams, Psycadallic Crow from George and Ahmigo from Oudtshoorn to advance to the final without suffering a defeat.
There they faced local rivals, the Pacaltsdorp Stallions Basketball Club, in a closely contested final. The Hustlers held their composure in the closing stages to secure a 64-56 victory and claim the championship title.
Coach Christo Eksteen said the team's success was the result of hard work, commitment and consistent development.
The club, which trains in Denneoord, has focused on building both its senior and junior structures, and has regular training sessions aimed at developing local talent and increasing participation in the sport.

Following their triumph in the district, the George Hustlers have received an invitation to compete in the Youth Day Tournament hosted by African Grassroots in Cape Town on 20 and 21 June. This tournament will feature some of South Africa's leading U19 basketball teams from provinces such as the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
For the George side, the event will provide an opportunity to measure themselves against stronger opposition and gain valuable experience at a higher level of competition.
The upcoming tournament also presents a financial challenge, however, and the club appeals to local businesses and community members for sponsorships and donations to help cover transport, accommodation and meal costs.
The team has already received support from Triumph Sports Arena, which sponsored their playing attire, as well as Windovert and Denneoord Superette. Eksteen said additional support would help ensure the team can participate in the event and for them to continue to develop local basketball talent.

With the Eden District title secured, the Hustlers will now turn their attention to preparing for the Cape Town tournament as they look to build on their recent success and represent the Garden Route on a larger stage.
