GEORGE NEWS - Levona Bredenkamp of Fariha Belly Dance Studio walked away with numerous prestigious awards in August this year at the National Miss Belly Dance Competition.
The annual competition is hosted by Goddess Divine Productions, based in Johannesburg.
They invite internationally and nationally acclaimed dancers to sit on the panel of judges. The competition is divided into various non-title categories that can be entered as soloist or in a group. The title categories include Teen, Junior, Senior and Adult Miss Belly Dance South Africa.
Although it is not the first time Bredenkamp has entered and won prizes at this competition, this year she walked away with the overall crown and ended first in the Senior Title category which combines the various aspects of the dance genre that a professional dancer needs to have mastered.
Bredenkamp also placed first in the Sensational Props category with her piece Fan Veil, and third in the Divine Drum category.
She has been the resident dancer at Kafe Serefe since 2008. Earlier this year, she received a gold medal placement at the Cape Town International Competition CIAD, which is also judged by international as well as national judges.
She placed second in the competition in 2015.
Her previous accomplishments at the Miss Belly Dance Competition include a second place in Divine Drum in 2012, first place in Modern Egyptian in 2014, and in 2017 a first place in the Divine Drum category, a fourth in the Title Category, and Soloist of the Year.
