Playing against the plucky LetMeRepair team who had done so well in their first season, the new holders stamped their authority on the game right from the start and emerged 16-5 winners, gaining a valuable 13 game points at the same time.
This was sufficient to hold off the previous champions, Old Mutual, who had to settle for 2nd place with 61 points after a solid 13-7 win over ABSA.
Making the best move (5 positions) up the table in the final round, the Mazars squad (57 points) eased their way into 3rd position, courtesy of a 15-6 win over luckless Multistone who could not find any answer to the winners’ firepower on the evening.
ABSA, on 55 points, managed to capture 4th position with Sotheby’s (55 points) in a very close 5th spot, separated only by virtue of a smaller net shot score than ABSA.
The Plate event also produced new holders in the form of the Niflas A team who scored a total of 55 game points to hold off the sponsor’s team, Ricoh, who was placed second with only 4 points behind.
Close behind in 3rd position (48 points) came Millers Attorneys, who emulated the performance of Mazars in that they also moved 5 positions up the ladder - the best move in the Plate. They beat their courageous opponents, Niflas B, 26-3, in the process only allowing them 2 game points out of the possible 16.
Fourth position in the Plate event went to newcomers Debt Wise on 47 points, narrowly edging out seasoned campaigners, De Villiers & Moore who also attained 47 points, by a difference of 6 net shots.
The closest game of the evening was between REMAX and The Crack Squad. This was won by the former, 14-11, with the winners squeaking home 9-7 in game points.
After the action on the greens was completed for the final time this year in this popular event, players and spectators adjourned to the George Clubhouse for a convivial beverage or two as they waited to congratulate teams that qualified for awards this time round.
