Forty-four players from Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Wilderness, Sedgefield, George and Oudtshoorn participated in the two-day Southern Cape Bridge Union Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 8 and 9.

Organised by the Southern Cape Bridge Union, the first day was hosted in George by Errol Walker of the George Bridge Club, and the second day by the Knysna Duplicate Bridge Club.

All participants played against each other during Tuesday's qualifying round and on Wednesday players played in a graded A and B section.

Results

A section:
1. Stephanie and Martin Higham (both of Knysna), 2. Heidi Atkinson (Knysna) and Gail Bezuidenhout (Wilderness), 3. Roy Riley and Stephanie Donner (who come from England every year to play bridge and enjoy the local hospitality and scenery).

B-section:
1. Karin van der Merwe and Wacek Kijewski (both from George), 2. Flo Goslar and Sheila Le Feuvre (both from Knysna), 3. Verna Taylor, Dawn Williams and Hans van Raaij (from Knysna).

Martin and Stephanie Higham of Knysna were the overall winners of the Southern Cape Bridge Union Championship. With them is organiser Heidi Atkinson.


Winners of the Southern Cape Bridge Union Championship B section were Karin van der Merwe and Wacek Kijewski.
