GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Cool, overcast weather has greeted the athletes ahead of the start of the 2024 George MUT, by UTMB.
The first of the distances, the miler (100 miles), gets underway at 12:00 today, Friday 24 May. 62 runners from 39 countries will leave the Outeniqua Park rugby stadium and head straight up the VK (vertical kilometre) and into the Outeniquas by way of George Peak.
They have 49 hours to complete the 160km course, which boasts everything from big climbs, rocky trails and technical downhills to views of the Outeniqua Mountain range that will keep them going.
The winner will be expected back close to 09:00 on Saturday morning, but tonight, if the mountain isn’t shrouded in cloud, George residents should be able to see a trail of headlights along the mountain trails above the city.
