Update
GEORGE GOLF NEWS - With three courses in the top ten, George has once again come out tops in Golf Digest magazine's South African course rankings for 2020.
The Links at Fancourt remains at number one, and Montagu at number eight, while George Golf Course jumped two places to number 10 - an exceptional achievement for a municipal golf course.
Sandra Lennox, the general manager of the George Golf Club, said everyone at the club is delighted with the news.
"We have always known that the layout of George Golf Club was worthy of international recognition, so finally making it back into the top 10 was great reward for all the hard work the course staff and members have put in," she said.
"We believe that this is not only great news for our club, but for the whole town, as many South African and international tourists will flock to the area to see what a gem we have. Having three of the top 10 courses based in George certainly confirms that we are the golf Mecca of South Africa."
George tourism manager Joan Shaw said golf remains one of George's main attractions and one of the unique selling points.
"We are pleased to remain in the top rankings for another year. We wish to congratulate everyone who contributes to keeping the courses interesting and perfectly manicured, and thereby keeping George in the golf spotlight. It makes our job of promoting George as a premier golf destination that much easier."
Other courses in the Garden Route that made the top 20 list are Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort in Mossel Bay (15th), Pezula Championship Course (18th) and Simola Golf Club (20th), both in Knysna.
