The International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) recently signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding with EURASIAN, setting the stage for expansion into 11 new countries. This monumental step forward underscores the sport's growing popularity and global appeal.
We are truly privileged to host the 2023 Tent Pegging World Cup in the picturesque city of George, South Africa. Against the backdrop of the George Show, this event promises a showcase of skill, precision and the indomitable bond between horse and rider. Legend has it that tent pegging emerged as a vital strategy when Alexander the Great's cavalry invaded India in 326 BC. Utilising their equestrian prowess, the soldiers would target the sensitive toenails of enemy battle elephants, causing chaos and disruption. To hone this battle technique, they practised on wooden tent pegs, striking them with lances and swords while mounted on galloping horses. Other renditions place tent pegging's origins in the Middle Ages, recounting stories of daring riders wreaking havoc in enemy camps by upending tents with their spears at dawn, inciting pandemonium.
