GEORGE NEWS - Young Blues Football Club faced Fast Eleven in a George Local Football Association (Geolfa) League match at the Lawaaikamp Stadium last weekend. The only goal of the game was scored by Mvuyisi "Vice" Zweni of Young Blues.
The Blues were relegated from the Safa Eden Regional League last season and are fighting for the top eight in the Geolfa League, while Fast Eleven are challenging the top five on the log table.
Young Blues were on the attack from the get go, but Fast Eleven took the game from them with ferocious play using the pace of Avela Mafukula on the left and Aphelele Gili on the right side of the field.
Young Blues launched a dangerous attack from the centre of the field but their shot was cleared away by a Fast Eleven defender, forcing a corner kick for Young Blues, whose first chance from the corner kick was well defended by Fast Eleven.
Ngcukayithobi Xolani of Young Blues tried his luck outside the box and his strike was denied by Fast Eleven goalkeeper Makazole Dingiso, forcing another corner kick for Young Blues. Again their corner kick was cleared away by Fast Eleven defenders.
Avele Mafukula of Fast Eleven delivered a powerful shot, but unfortunately it went wide. Mvuyisi Zweni missed a golden chance when he sent a shot straight at the goalkeeper. The first half ended with no points scored.
The second half started fast with Young Blues looking dangerous on the ball. Zweni Mvuyisi scored with a beautiful header from a ball that was played in from a set piece on the right side of the field, giving them the upper hand at 1-0. Nathan Jooste and Mvuyisi Zweni used their speed to break through Fast Eleven's defence.
Fast Eleven was playing beautiful attacking football trying for the equalising goal at every opportunity.
Though they gained confidence, taking the game from Young Blues, keeping up the pressure, they failed to break the net to level the score.
