GEORGE NEWS - A highly motivated Young Masters FC, from Zone 9 in Thembalethu, collected maximum points when they sank George Vultures 2-0 in a Promotional/Development League fixture on Sunday morning, 30 June at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
With 34 points, Young Masters are in third position aiming for promotion for the upcoming season. They have played 17 league fixtures with 10 wins, four draws and three defeats, while George Vultures are fifth with 29 points.
The opening goal was scored in the first half when Ayabonga Sikewu took a long-range shot outside the box.
Young Masters kept up a high pace in the first half but were forced to fall back under the Vultures' driving force, yet Vultures were trailing 0-1 into the break. Derrick Booysen scored the second goal of the game in the second half after a strong drive from the centre of the field.
Vultures intensified their attacks in the second half but were driven to panic by Young Masters right flank Yongama Koeberg, leading to Young Masters' second goal. Young Masters excellently defended several onslaughts by Vultures that culminated in a last-minute attempt from Vultures' Oyama Gushu, which was denied by Masters goalkeepers Avela Gosa.
