FOOTBALL NEWS - St George was on rampage at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium when they beat eternal rivals, Ethiopia Coffee 4-0 to consolidate their grip on the top spot on the Ethiopia Premier League
Abubeker Nasir, the league’s top marksman was supposed to grab the headlines for Ethiopia Coffee but this was a stunning team performance for the St George Cavalry.
Abel Yalew shot the Horsemen into the lead two minutes to the end of the first half to go into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Chernet Gugsa had been one of the standout players last season while turning out for Wolaitta Dicha and so much was expected of him after his move to St George but he had not been anywhere close to his form.
Gugsa will come to the party in the 48th minute with a clever finish to give St George a 2-0 lead.
Ghanian Star, Edwin Frimpong made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute and Addis Giday put the game beyond reach with another goal to make it 4-0.
St George are now 6 points clear of Wolaitta Dicha in second position and Ethiopia Coffee’s misery continue in 9th position and gradually losing touch with the front runners.
In the day’s other game, Derek Nsibambi’s 88th minute strike earned Sebeta City a 1-0 win over Defence Force.
The win lifts Sebeta off the bottom of the log and pushes Jimma Aba JIfar to the bottom position.
