GEORGE NEWS - The Safa Eden Regional League log leaders, Simunye Football Club from Lawaaikamp, suffered their second defeat of the season after going down 1-0 against the Oudtshoorn-based side Infantry School on Saturday morning, 26 March in Oudtshoorn.
Infantry School netted their goal during the last five minutes of the game. Infantry School are the only side that managed to stand up to Simunye this season, winning both their fixtures.
In the first leg, Infantry School defeated Simunye 3-1 at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George. Simunye have played 25 fixtures with eighteen victories and four draws.
They have lost only two games and are sitting at the top of the Regional League log table with five games left. Infantry School are fighting to reach the top five in the league.
As the end of the season nears, the stakes are getting higher and competition between the top three teams in the league is heating up.
The race is on between Simunye (George) in first place on 61 points, with FC United (Knysna) in second with 57 points and Peace Makers (Mossel Bay) breathing in their neck with only one point difference at 56.
