SOCCER NEWS - For the second time in local football history, the Safa Eden Hollywoodbets' regional outfit, Simunye FC, was crowned the champions of the Easter soccer tournament.
They orchestrated a well-deserved victory, sinking Paris United 2-0 in a tough final at Thembalethu Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 26 April.
Simunye's head coach, Hassan Mabrouk, and his assistant coach, Makiwa Ndayisaba, have been working hard building and shaping their talented players from day one.
The final started at a fast pace with both teams playing offensive football going straight into the box. Paris United employed the pace and skills of Ayabulela Joja up front.
Simunye changed their tack, taking the game from Paris United - Pule Mosoa opened the score, making it 1-0. The first half ended on this lead for Simunye.
The second half started on fire as Paris United were looking for their equalising goal.
The Simunye boys were enjoying the game, creating more opportunities on their flanks - using the speed of Luzuko Sabelesiva.
Shane Booysen netted the second goal past Paris United goalkeeper Siyanda Kalo. Paris United were chasing the game, trying to get their first goal.
Sindile Magubane of Simunye tried his luck just outside the box, but his shot was denied by a Paris United shotstopper.
Paris United's captain, Zanemfundo Mali, made a brilliant block against Siyabonga 'Mpumlo' Miggels' shot at goal, but it was not successful.
The exciting tournament ended 2-0. The Lawaaikamp boys went home with the bragging rights after earning the Geolfa competition' first prize of R25 000. In second place, Paris United were awarded R11 000.
Luvuyo Ncamile, Geolfa's deputy chairperson, said he believes Geolfa had organised one of the greatest tournaments in the region. He also thanked everyone who supported it.
