SOCCER NEWS - The Lower Division of the Super League played their first fixtures last weekend.
The Silver Town-based side, Silver Stars FC, defeated the newcomers to the lower division, Royal Blues, with a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, 16 February at Thembalethu Stadium.
Sifiso Lupiyana (brace) and Linathi Kolela netted the three goals for the Stars, while Kamva Konqa contributed the Blues' only goal.
Silver Stars impressed with their ball skills and speed while Royal Blues, who tried very hard, could not keep up. Silver Stars scored two goals in the first half courtesy of Sifiso Lupiyana, making the half-time score 2-0.
The second half saw both teams playing attacking football, with the Silver Town side dominating.
Linathi Kolela netted the third goal making it 3-0, but their back line let them down when they did not manage to defend Royal Blues' attack, leading to Kamva Konqa scoring a great goal for Royal Blues. Silver Stars' victory saw them collecting the maximum points.
