Raul Stars suffer massive defeat

GEORGE NEWS - Last season's George Local Football Association (Geolfa) League champions, Raul Stars from Thembalethu, failed another difficult test last weekend.

They went down 6-1 against Oudtshoorn side Moonlight FC on Saturday morning, 22 January, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. Lilitha Jantjies netted the one goal for Raul Stars while Wayne Botha (2), Barenito Lewis (2), Franklin Langerveld and Jostiaan Oosthuizen scored for Moonlight.

Raul Stars have yet to win a game in the Regional League and are currently sitting in the relegation zone at the bottom of the league, while Moonlight are fighting their way up to the top eight.

Raul Stars started the game from the back, building their passes and creating more space to attack. This resulted in a free kick on the left side of the field, but their shot was denied by Moonlight goalkeeper Basil Avontuur.

Moonlight was looking very dangerous on the ball, chasing the first goal of the game. Byron Jafta (Moonlight) used his pace on the left side of the field but his attempt was cleared away by a Raul Stars defender.

Another strong attack gave them their first goal. Raul Stars received a free kick on the left side of the field and delivered a beautiful cross into the box, which Lilitha Jantjies converted to make it 1-1.

Moonlight continued playing attacking football. Siphosethu Sdumo tried his luck driving a powerful shot but his shot was denied by Moonlight's goalkeeper forcing a corner kick for Raul Stars, but they failed to break the net. The first half ended 1-1 with both teams lacking that important sharpness in front of the goal post.

During the second half, Moonlight maintained the pressure and managed to score five more goals, beating Raul Stars with a massive score of 6-1.
