SOCCER NEWS - Thandiswa Qatana marked Women's Month by scoring a different kind of goal - investing in the future of Thembalethu's young footballers and helping a teenage player pursue her provincial league dream.
This George Municipality Ward 13 councillor and community leader donated some training equipment and soccer balls to four local teams at Thembalethu Stadium on Wednesday 26 August.
The beneficiaries were Rising Stars FC, Bangalore FC, Raul Stars FC and Burning Fire Ladies.
Qatana also came to the aid of the 15-year-old Ovuyonke Ngemntu, a Grade 10 learner of Pacaltsdorp High School and Burning Fire Ladies player. She has been selected to represent FC Milan Ladies of Mossel Bay in the Western Cape Provincial Sasol League during the 2026/27 season. Qatana provided financial assistance towards her documentation and travelling expenses.
Qatana said empowering women begins with investing in these girls. "Every girl deserves to reach her potential and live her dreams," she said.
She urged community leaders, stakeholders and churches to support similar initiatives, saying investment in girls can help build safer families, stronger communities and a better George.
