GEORGE NEWS - FC Pacaltsdorp may have turned the corner in their desperate quest to avoid relegation from the Geolfa League.
Their performance against Silver Stars at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 13 July, was nothing short of miraculous, scooping a whopping 5-2 victory.
Pacaltsdorp are currently third from the bottom of the log. To survive in the league, they need to keep up this form in their three remaining games.
The first half saw Silver Stars players Liyema Womdatya and Asiphe Nkatha take shots at the goal, but Pacaltsdorp goalkeeper Macks Mashaba blocked both.
Luke Frye of Pacaltsdorp also tried his luck, but his strike went wide. The opening goal was scored by Lindre Johnson of Pacaltsdorp. Silver Stars then changed tactics and played the ball on the flanks, but Pacs countered with a driving move from the centre of the field and Lindre Johnson netted his second goal.
Confident after their two goals, Pacaltsdorp were enjoying the game, with Linkin Mentoor and Ociano Pretorius dominating from the middle of the field.
Pacaltsdorp was leading 2-0 into the break.
The second half was a battle for supremacy. Pacaltsdorp started out with a speedy attack, but Johnson's kick went wide. Silver Stars were trying to keep the attacking Pacaltsdorp players at bay but Matthew Floris broke through their backline to score a great goal, putting Pacaltsdorp in the lead 3-0.
Silver Town pushed for their first goal and tasted success when Asiphe Nkatha changed the score to 3-1. Pacs were on a roll though and Perrigrant Thys comfortably netted their fourth goal, making it 4-1. Silver Stars managed to up their score when Kamvalethu Dyordan hit the net from a free kick, making it 4-2.
Pacs retaliated with strong attacks from the centre, pushing into the box allowing the lanky Pacaltsdorp forward Lindre Johnson to put the nail in the coffin for Silver Stars when he scored his third goal.
