GEORGE NEWS - After a long festive season break, the local soccer teams are getting ready for their first league fixtures of the new year.
Both the HollywoodBets Regional League and the George Local Football Association League (Geolfa), will resume on Saturday 18 January across the Eden District.
The semi-professional ABC Motsepe Provincial League will start on 25 January. In the regional league two teams from George, Simunye and Black Cats, are currently occupying the top two positions on the log table after playing seven games last year.
Simunye's right wing back, Sithabiso Shabalala, told George Herald they have managed to get a bunch of talented players from different clubs this season and are aiming for a Western Cape ABC Motsepe play-offs spot. But, they are facing tough competition in this league and will have to work hard to stay on top of the league.
