SOCCER NEWS - George Vultures FC sank Spurs United 2-0 in an entertaining Promotional League fixture on Saturday afternoon, 11 May at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.
Inathi Mabele and Yamkela Moss contributed the two goals for George Vultures.
With 18 points, George Vultures are currently sixth on the Promotional League log table. They have played ten fixtures with five victories, three draws and two defeats. Meanwhile Spurs United are occupying eighth position on the table.
The encounter got off to a good start with both teams rolling the ball on the carpet trying to get their first goal. Yamkela Moss of George Vultures tried his luck on the right side of the field, but his strike was denied by Spurs United goalkeeper Yibanathi Masala - forcing a corner kick for George Vultures. Sophumelela Mapapa's shot was however cleared by the Spurs United goalkeeper.
Spurs made a run on the right side of the field with Ibanathi Masala delivering a delightful cross inside the box, but his shot was saved by George Vultures goalkeeper Khanyani Nobhakada.
George Vultures kept on pushing from the centre of the field looking for their first goal. Inathi Mabele scored the first goal putting his team in the driving seat 1-0.
The second half of the game saw both sides looking very smart on the ball. Spurs United striker Marshall Williams received an excellent pass from the left side of the field, but his powerful strike went over the bar.
George Vultures shifted into attacking gear and Yamkela Moss doubled their score with a great goal, putting more pressure on Spurs United back line.
George Vultures received a penalty, but Spurs goalkeeper Yibanathi Masala made a brilliant save denying Vultures a third goal.
Spurs employed their flanks in an offensive drive, but missed their opportunities during the last five minutes.
The Promotional League game ended 2-0 A solid performance ensure the victory for George Vultures with a score of 2-0, collecting maximum points.
