SOCCER NEWS - The annual George Local Football Association's Heritage Soccer Tournament kicked off at various venues in George - Lawaaikamp Stadium, Maraiskamp Stadium (Parkdene) and Thembalethu Stadium - last weekend, with 33 teams battling it out for the top prize of R15 000.
The final will be played at Thembalethu Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, 24 September - Heritage Day.
Last year's finalists, Black Cats and Simunye FC - both from Lawaaikamp - achieved hopeful results in their opening games.
In their first fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 13 September, the Black Cats punished Young Masters 5-0 in a thrilling game. Nkosiyabo Toto, Mphumzi Kalolo, Wanda Mkhosi, Lonwabo Choto and Viwe Mawindi netted the five goals for Black Cats.
On Sunday afternoon, Pacaltsdorp FC failed to collect points when they went down 3-1 against Flying Vultures at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. Hlumelo Stwayi (brace) and Liphiwe Bangiso contributed the three goals for Vultures and Gladwill Booysen for Pacaltsdorp.
With one more fixture remaining for both sides, they are hoping to reach the knockout stages.
