GEORGE NEWS - The Rosemoor-based side George Celtics missed the perfect chance of shrinking the gap in their Promotional League title race when they played 1-1 against Southern Academy (Thembalethu) on Saturday 17 August at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
The spirited Celtics are battling for promotion to the domestic league. With 40 points, George Celtics are in fifth position, while Southern Academy are aiming to reach the top eight.
While both goals were scored in the first half, the second half delivered more exciting soccer played at a fast pace. Celtics were looking promising in the first part of the game with the flanks going forward into the box, giving them the first goal.
Southern Academy came back with a strong attack from the centre of the field and netted the equalising goal to make it 1-1. No goals was scored in the second half, keeping the score on 1-1.
A standout moment in the second half was when Celtics defender Akhile Malife made a crucial tackle, clearing the ball away from the Southern Academy striker and denying Southern Academy an opportunity in the eighteen area.
Shakeal Malapan of George Celtics played an excellent game - using skilful touches on the ball to steer the attack.
