GEORGE NEWS - On a chilly Saturday afternoon, George Vultures FC staged a solid performance when they locked horns with the Promotional League log leaders, Celtics FC.
Vultures, the youthful side from Thembalethu, defeated Celtics 2-1 at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on 24 August.
Oyama "Razor" Gushu of Vultures was one of the top performers, creating more chances into the box and capitalising on Celtics' weaknesses to pull two great goals in the second half.
Celtics kicked off and immediately started building their passes from the back line. The forward, Emihle Mooi, used every opportunity to get the ball into the box, but Vultures were on the attack.
The Vultures flanks drove the ball down the left side of the field and Oyama Bontiya delivered a powerful strike, but his ball went wide.
Vultures missed another opportunity when a penalty shot by Oyama Bontiya's was denied by Celtics goalkeeper Mesuli Nyivana. After balanced play from both sides during the first half, there was still no score on the board at half time.
The second half saw both teams playing offensive football with Celtics using quick one-twos to go forward into the box, but they failed to score. Oyama Gushu put Vultures in the lead 1-0 with his side's first goal.
The Vultures team kept on pushing, using Gushu's skills and speed in the front to cause Celtics' back line to panic, and giving Gushu the opportunity to net his second goal with a powerful shot.
Celtics launched a desperate attack during the last minutes of the game and, thanks to poor communication in the Vultures back line, Zusakhe Makhubulane scored Celtics' only goal, beating Vultures goalkeeper Khanyani Nobhakada.
