SOCCER NEWS - The newly promoted Thembalethu side, Celtics FC, sank FC Pacaltsdorp 4-2 in a Geolfa Promotional League fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium last Saturday.
Both teams are fighting their way up the log table.
It was no runaway victory, with Pacaltsdorp even looking within reach of a draw in the second half, but Celtics proved too strong in the end.
Pacaltsdorp kicked off and played offensive football on the flanks with Jade van Wyk looking sharp on the ball. But Celtics were a force to reckon with from the word go, staying strong under the initial pressure.
Yamkela Poswayo netted the first goal for Celtics and Anele Plata extended their lead to 2-0 in the first half. After their third goal, scored by Likhona Mbudede in the second half, Pacaltsdorp rose to the challenge, receiving a set piece.
Celtics goalkeeper Kwanele Malamba forced a corner kick for Pacs and Luke Frye netted their first goal, making it 3-1.
Jade van Wyk scored the second goal for Pacs, making it 3-2 and raising hopes of reaching a draw.
However, after Yamkela Poswayo of Celtics broke through the Pacaltsdorp back line and scored their fourth goal, Pacs had no answer and the game ended 4-2.
