GEORGE NEWS - Celtics Football Club in Thembalethu were crowned champions of the Promotional/Development League after a 2-1 victory over United Spurs in their final match on Sunday 15 September at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
Emihle Mooi scored both goals for Celtics, while Imitha Mdini netted United Spurs' goal.
Celtics secured the title with 62 points, after a strong season featuring 20 wins, two draws and four losses across 26 matches. The team scored 67 goals and conceded 25. Key players like goalkeeper Mesuli Nyivani, Yamkela Poswayo and Emihle Mooi were instrumental in the team's success.
Both Celtics and runners-up Future Stars FC earned promotion to the Geolfa Elite Domestic League for the 2024/25 season.
In the first half, Celtics controlled the game, with Mooi's header from a corner making it 1-0. Spurs struggled to break through Celtics' defence, and Mooi doubled Celtics' lead with a second goal after excellent midfield play. Spurs had a chance from a corner but missed the target, leaving the score 2-0 at halftime.
The second half saw increased intensity, with both teams pushing for goals. Spurs' Imitha Mdini scored, making it 2-1, but despite their efforts, they couldn't equalise. Celtics defended well, holding onto their lead to secure the win and the league title.
The match ended 2-1, with Celtics celebrating their well-earned promotion after a strong and consistent season.
