SOCCER NEWS - The Safa Eden Regional Men’s League is imminent, starting off with the Nedbank Cup competition.
At 12:00 on a rainy Saturday afternoon, 1 November, the Lawaaikamp boys, the Black Cats, defeated Fast Eleven 3-2 in a Safa Eden Regional Nedbank Cup preliminary round at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.
Thirteen regional league teams participated in this year’s Nedbank Cup competition, with the winner standing a chance to progress to the Provincial Nedbank Cup Championship.
After a fast-paced start in which both teams were sharp on the ball, Keathon van Rooyen of the Black Cats opened the score.
Fast Eleven were chasing the game, trying to level the score, but Mphumzi Kalolo and Dinilethu Hermans of the Black Cats controlled the game with forward moves.
Anele Ntloko and Zefania Mabunda of Fast Eleven gave notable performances, but failed to hit the net in the first half.
At half-time, Fast Eleven were trailing 1-0.
The second half saw both teams playing offensive football with the Black Cats making the most of the field.
The Cats scored two more goals, that were countered by Fast Eleven’s JongiKhaya Myana and Zefania Mabunda, who scored one each, changing the tenure of the game.
The Black Cats, however, managed to defend their 3-2 lead until the final whistle blew.
The Cats went on to the next round, travelling to Plettenberg Bay to take on Voota FC from Knysna at the Kwanokuthula Stadium at 16:00.
They reached the end of their road towards the Nedbank Cup, however, going down 2-0 against Voota.
