GEORGE SOCCER NEWS - Black Cats Geolfa have so far managed to maintain their unbeaten record after gaining promotion from the Geolfa lower division, the Promotional Development League, last season.
The Black Cats second team sent a strong message to the domestic league teams: the boys are here for the competition, not just to add numbers.
A goal from Azizi Ntakurimana helped Black Cats Geolfa to a 1-0 victory against the most experienced Geolfa team, Abahlali FC, on Sunday afternoon, 9 November at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
Cats started the game in the centre of the field trying to play carpet football, looking for loopholes. Azizi Ntakurimana and Hlumelo "Mimo" Mandla, assisted by Yibanathi "Major" Mtsi, launched a dangerous attack, pushing for the first goal. Mtsi failed to control the ball after he received a marvellous pass played in from the centre of the field.
Cats received a set piece just outside the box but the long-range shot was easily saved by Abahlali goalkeeper Luvuyo Singeni. Abahlali were employing their physical strength and experience to try and unlock Black Cats defenders but failed to break through. Heristot "Ari" Kawaya of Black Cats tried his luck after Cats were awarded a free kick on the right side of the field, but his shot went over the crossbar. The Abahlali attacking middlefielders Fanele "Mido" Chele and Lonwabo Leonard came right back, using their pace and skill to unlock Cats' defence. Abahlali won the free kick but they failed to open the net. The forty-five minutes ended on a goalless draw.
In the second half, the game started at a fast pace with a powerful strike by Chele of Abahlali from the centre of the field, but his shot went over the crossbar. Black Cats launched a strong attack and scored the first goal of the game to make it 1-0. Both teams were looking very dangerous on the ball creating chances.
Abahlali received a corner kick on the left side of the field but their powerful header was blocked by William Daniels, Black Cats' goalkeeper. Black Cats received two quick corner kicks but didn't manage to score a second goal.
Black Cats' left winger threatened the opposition's left back looking for the second goal.
Black Cats were awarded a penalty after an Abahlali defender fouled their striker inside the box, but Ayabulela "Aya" Jantjies missed the target, shooting his penalty kick over the crossbar.
Abahlali tried to come back but it was too late to equalise and Black Cats Geolfa won the game 1-0.
