GEORGE NEWS - Lawaaikamp giants Black Cats FC were officially crowned as the Geolfa Heritage tournament champions after beating Simunye 2-0 in a thrilling final on Tuesday evening, 24 September at the Thembalethu sports facility.
Siphamandla Hlangabeza and Wanda Mkhosi contributed the two goals for the Lawaaikamp boys.
In the first semi-final the Cats won on penalties 0(4)-0(1) against the Zone 9 team All Stars, while Simunye knocked out Fast Eleven 3-0 in the second semi-final.
Cat-and-mouse game
In a knock-out game on Sunday morning, Black Cats defeated Raul Stars 2(3)-2(2) on penalty shootouts at Thembalethu Stadium. Likhona Mandla, the Black Cats shotstopper, gave a stellar performance with his acrobatic moves denying two penalties of Raul Stars.
The experienced centre forward Lunga Jantjies did a great job creating opportunities for the Cats. Jantjies and his hard work paid off when he scored their first goal.
In a well-balanced first half, several attempts by both sides resulted in only one goal scored, with Lunga Jantjies doing the honours for Black Cats. Raul Stars kept the pressure on in the second half and succeeded in scoring an equaliser courtesy of Ambesiwe Bhokhwe.
Their lead was extended to 2-1 when Black Cats netted an own goal from a set piece. Trying to make up for this blunder, Cats went all out and managed their second goal in the last minutes of play.
With a 2-2 tie, the game was decided through penalties with Cats coming out victorious.
