GEORGE NEWS - Two goals from Amimo Hussein and Lunga "Anelka" Jantjies helped Black Cats Football Club secure a 2-2 draw against Cape Town Spurs, formerly known as Ajax Cape Town, on Saturday afternoon, 15 January at Ikamva Sport field in the Cape Town region.
The newly promoted Black Cats from George started 2022 travelling to the Mother City for their first game of the year and came back home with a positive outcome after managing to play a draw away from home.
The last season's Safa Eden Regional Men's League champions netted the first goal of the game during the first half. The first 45 minutes ended 1-0, Black Cats leading.
Cape Town Spurs started the second half with a strong attack and scored their first goal from the penalty spot after receiving a soft penalty. Both teams were chasing more goals to win the game, but it was the home team that netted the second goal to make it 2-1.
Black Cats players had to work overtime playing with one man down after Lukhona Ntulo was shown a red card.
They succeeded in coming back and scored their second and equalising goal. The exciting WC ABC Motsepe League game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Reflecting after the game, Black Cats head coach, Bazil Mavukwane, said God must have been watching over them as they managed a draw with a red card in the last 15 minutes, even after the referee denied a clear-cut chance of a penalty inside the six yards area.
"It's very hard, the boys are slow learners," he said. "In this division you need to be quick in terms of decision-making, but as a team we'll get it right with time. Credit to the boys - they fought so hard for the equalising goal. It's not easy at all when the team is playing an away game."
