CRICKET NEWS - For the first time in development football for the women of George, the Black Cats women recently participated in the iDiski Queens Challenge soccer tournament 2026 at the Bot River sportsground in the Overberg region.
Twelve teams took part in this year's challenge.
The George team started out strong, getting to the knock-out stage after whacking Villiersdorp Spurs 3-0 and defeating Nanini Na 3-1.
Their road ended in the quarter-finals, however, after going down 1-0 against Young Stars. The Cats' goal-scorers were Sanelisiwe Yengwa, Usiphile Ngqavu and Amy Opperman.
Coach Whayn Windwaai was pleased with the girls' performance, considering it was their first time playing in a large tournament.
He said they gave their opponents the opportunity to capitalise on their mistakes, but had learnt a lot from the bigger teams and tough opposition.
