South Africa faced the US in an international friendly in Chicago for the first time, this as they prepare for the Rio Olympics which take place in August.
Van Wyk and her team were beaten 1-0 in a match they were touted to lose by a larger margin – considering the strength of the American team and the lack of international exposure the South Africans have had.
Coach Vera Pauw’s side is set to face New Zealand in Brazil, in a warm-up match ahead of their opening game against European giants Sweden on 3 August.
Van Wyk, who will captain Banyana at their second Olympic games says she would relish the opportunity to go display her talents against the best players in the world.
“If it is that a team has to come and approach me, I will most definitely go and gain as much experience playing in a professional league as possible and it’s always what I’ve wanted to do.”
