FOOTBALL NEWS - In a Zone 9 derby last weekend, All Stars locked horns with the struggling relegation outfit Young Masters and came out victorious with a score of 3-1.
The Geolfa League game was played at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. The four goals were scored by Yethu Maseko and Thembisele Khuselo (2) for All Stars and Thembekile Mkosana for Young Masters.
All Stars hope to reach the top eight position on the log table while Young Masters are struggling at the bottom of the log fighting to avoid relegation.
All Stars launched the first attack, which failed, and went on to get a free kick on the right side of the field, but their shot for goal went straight at the Young Masters goalkeeper. Didize Sindile of Young Masters tried to capitalise on a good opportunity after a cross played in from the centre of the field, but All Stars goalkeeper Zola Choli cleared away the ball.
Young Masters kept on pushing from the centre of the field and managed to break through with Mkosana Thembekile opening the score with a well-guided shot outside the box.
Young Masters kept pushing for the second goal, but the goalkeeper blocked their attempts. Yethu Maseko netted All Stars' first goal to equalise. The score at the end of the first half was 1-1.
A superb header from Thembisile Khuselo put All Stars in the lead in the second half leading to renewed efforts by Young Masters, but their attempts were stopped by All Stars' defence.
All Stars attacked on the flanks, creating more chances on set pieces, which saw Thembisile Khuselo scoring his second goal. Young Masters were not able to come back and lost the game 3-1.
