SOCCER NEWS - All Stars FC strengthened their title ambitions with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Future Stars in a George Local Football Association Promotional League clash at Lawaaikamp on Saturday afternoon.
The two sides, both locked in the top three and chasing promotion to the Safa Eden Elite Regional League, delivered a high-tempo encounter.
All Stars struck first through Lithalethu Mcanjana, who finished confidently after some strong build-up play from the back. They carried a narrow lead into half-time, despite mounting pressure from a determined Future Stars outfit.
The second half saw All Stars taking control. A swift counter-attack down the right produced their second goal, and Bonani Swelindawe calmly converted it from close range.
Liyema Maqotywa then extended the advantage to 3-0 late in the match, seemingly putting the result beyond doubt.
Future Stars, however, refused to fade. Thembinkosi Wilson pulled one back with a well-taken effort before Sanezo Baliti converted a penalty following a foul in the box, setting up a tense finish.
All Stars held firm to secure maximum points.
The result lifts All Stars to second place on 30 points after 13 matches, and Future Stars are close behind in third on 28.
Head coach Sibongile Tilana praised his team's determination, noting the victory was especially meaningful after previous struggles against their rivals.
He highlighted the intensity of the contest and commended both teams' performances, adding that his side showed strong character across two demanding fixtures over the weekend.
